Symptomatic non-atherosclerotic bilateral extracranial vertebral artery occlusion treated with extracranial to intracranial bypass: case report.
Posterior fossa ischemia is not a very frequent situation. It is responsible for about 25% of all ischemic strokes, and the vast majority of the cases are related to atherosclerotic stenosis of the vertebral and/or basilar arteries. Acute ischemia can also occur in the setting of vertebral artery dissection, traumatic or spontaneous. Recently, blunt trauma has been increasingly recognized as a ...
متن کاملTraumatic dissection of the vertebral artery--value of sonographic diagnostics.
Introduction Dissection of a cervical artery supplying the brain is a major cause of stroke in young adults. It can occur spontaneously, in connection with an underlying disorder such as fi bromuscular dysplasia, 1 -antitrypsin defi ciency, hypertension, migraine, atherosclerosis, arteritis or Marfan’s disease [1, 2] . More often, it is related to a neck trauma. In the case of a vertebral arter...
متن کاملA case of aberrant bilateral vertebral arteries orgin presenting with right VA dissection
Background: Knowledge of variations in the origin of vertebral artery (VA) is indispensable to vascular surgeons. Aberrant origin of vertebral artery on either side is an uncommon finding. There are unilateral and bilateral variability in VA origin. Case presentation: We present a case of vertebral artery dissection who was found to have bilateral VAs aberrant origin. The right VA took origin ...
متن کاملBilateral dissecting aneurysms of the extracranial vertebral arteries associated with cervical carotid artery aneurysm.
Dissecting aneurysms of the vertebrobasilar system are infrequent. Most of the commonly reported cases describe iatrogenic or traumatic aneurysms of the extracranial vertebral artery. Spontaneous dissecting aneurysms of the extracranial vertebral artery are frequently associated with carotid artery lesions; however, such association is poorly documented in the literature. We describe a case of ...
متن کاملExtracranial vertebral artery pseudoaneurysm presenting as subarachnoid hemorrhage.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE True aneurysms of the extracranial vertebral artery are rare. The usual pathogenesis of aneurysms in this location is either penetrating or blunt trauma with resultant pseudoaneurysm formation. We report a postpartum patient with a presumed traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the extracranial vertebral artery presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage. CASE DESCRIPTION A 41-year-o...
